As of June 4th, 2022, there have been 27 school shootings this year alone. We are a community of concerned Kinnelon parents, proactively seeking logical ways to ensure the safety of our children and school staff members. 

Currently Stonybrook and Kinnelon High School have a School Resource Officer stationed on each campus. Kiel Elementary and Pearl R. Miller Middle School share a School Resource Officer, responsible for simultaneously patrolling and surveying both campuses. In order to enhance safety and security, we feel it would be a logical and beneficial decision to hire an additional School Resource Officer so that the campuses of Kiel Elementary and Pearl R. Miller Middle School each have a designated officer. 

We are incredibly grateful for the close working relationship between the Kinnelon PD and the Kinnelon public school system. We are particularly grateful for the consistent presence of the invaluable School Resource Officers who have come to feel like an integral part of our children's school community. Our goal is for our children and their teachers to go to school every day feeling as safe and secure as possible. We believe that hiring an additional School Resource Officer is an appropriate way to achieve this.
