I am proposing an additional Bank Holiday in the UK. With the talk of 4 day working week growing throughout the world and trials taking place in the UK, to help with productivity and mental health to avoid mental, emotional and physical burn out, it would make sense to have an extra bank holiday.

Not only would it help the areas mentioned above but also help with the economy for both businesses and staff. This would come as the businesses sell more due to the higher footfall of consumers and would have to get more staff working on this bank holiday in the commercial, leisure and hospitality sectors to cope with demand, which would mean more money made by the staff (overtime) as well as bank holiday pay for the companies that offer it, which is much needed during this cost of living crisis.

The UK is among the top 5 economies in the world yet we are amongst the bottom 5 for most bank holidays (especially in England) 

We go the last 3 and a half to 4 months of the year and the first 3 and a half months of the following year with hardly any bank holidays compared to the rest of the year, it just doesn’t make any sense. I would even suggest that this additional bank holiday is in line with Remembrance Day or the U.S.A Thanksgiving as a day of giving thanks seems appropriate to boost morale at such a tough time.
