Starting this process and research I learned many things about the stereotypes and stigmas still surrounding tattooed individuals today. Critics are everywhere, from employers, individuals with certain religious beliefs, and even your own family. I have dealt with stereotypes due to my tattoos first hand from employers and my family and it hurts. To be labeled as indecent, unintelligent, rebellious, etc. only because I have permanent ink on my skin is ridiculous. I wanted to see if I could do anything to change the way society sees tattoos. I decided to dive into why tattoos are still “taboo” in the workplace. The normalization of tattoos has been on a constant rise in the 21st century. With the rise of popularity, the biggest new trend is to have visible tattoos. Individuals are more open to sharing their ink rather than hiding them under clothes.
