Add Rats and Other Small Animals to Animal Welfare Act NOW!!!
Did you know that rats are intelligent animals who, like dogs, have a strong sense of smell? That they are very sociable animals and enjoy interaction with people? That they giggle when they're having fun? That they're actually very clean animals? That they're very playful? That mother rats will go out of their way to protect their young?
Many rats are forced to suffer under painful and life-threatening tests by corporations that refuse to find more reliable and humane ways of testing. Testing on animals is hardly reliable as animals and humans do not work the same way: In other words, if a dog can't eat chocolate, why can a human? If animals have separate pills than humans, how can an animal react well to a pill made for humans? It makes no sense.
Rats and mice as well as other animals are not protected by the Animal Welfare Act. It's not fair that these animals are treated as if they cannot feel when we know very well they can feel just as much as a dog or cat can. Please sign if you believe that rats, mice, rabbits and other such animals deserve to have their rights and end unnecessary and cruel testing on these charming creatures.
Alternatives available include embryonic stem cell tests, human skin model tests, using leftover human skin from surgical procedures, microdosing and 3T3 Neutral Red Uptake Phototoxicity Test.

We the undersigned believe that it is unfair that the Animal Welfare Act does not include rodents or any other living creature used for experimentation. We believe that every living creature, regardless of what people may be misled of their worth, has a right to not be forced to undergo animal testing as well, since all animals have the ability to feel pain. It is unfair to suggest that only dogs and cats can feel.
Rats are highly intelligent animals with very little resemblance to our body structures, causing many tests to fail due to the inaccurate test results. We believe rats, also considered loving animals that make great pets, deserve their own rights and place in the AWA.
Please consider the time to add rodents as well as other animals to the AWA as there are more humane ways of testing that we must enforce in order to progress science and use less archaic methods.
