Add paved shoulders to Vilas County highways

Vilas County is fast becoming a midwest mecca for bicycling enthusiasts.  Each year has seen a significant increase in the number of local and visiting cyclists and the tourist dollars spent by this recreational activity in Vilas County.  Although, many of our towns have invested in and built off-road bike trails networks, most areas of the county remain isolated where cyclist are forced to use county highways to reach many destinations.  Currently, very few Vilas County highways contain paved shoulders which presents a significant personal injury risk to cyclists, as well as a danger to drivers.  We the undersigned are asking our State Representatives, the Vilas County Board, and the Vilas County Highway Department to add paved shoulders to all Vilas County highways at the time when each section of highway is next scheduled for resurfacing.  The goal would be that over the course of the next 10-15 years all Vilas County highways would contain paved shoulders.
