Why this petition matters

Started by Leanne Martin

The central bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps), also known as the inland bearded dragon, is a species of agamid lizard found in a wide range of arid to semiarid regions of eastern and central Australia.

Bearded dragons are one of the most popular reptiles to keep as pets, due to their gentle and docile demeanor, and their variety of beautiful colours and patterns.

I have fallen in love with the gentle lizards and would love to have one join our family, however in Western Australia, we are limited only to keeping a Pogona Minor Minor, a smaller breed of bearded dragon. Whilst still lovely, they are not the large and beautiful reptile that I was hoping to have, and I believe it is truly a shame for Western Aussies to be the only ones to miss out on the love of these gorgeous creatures.

I realise that WA has very strict quarantine laws compared to the rest of the country and I'm not completely across WHY they have been declared pests, however I want to start this petition to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation & Attractions to have the Pogona Vitticeps added to the acceptable Class B allowed reptiles for WA.
