Add Assault Weapons to the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934

Add Assault Weapons to the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934
Why this petition matters
We propose a fair way to address the issue of assault weapons without infringing on anyone’s constitutional rights is to add licensing of assault weapons to the same federal statutes and regulations regarding private ownership of firearm suppressors as spelled out in the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934 and further amended:
* Be a resident of a state where suppressors are legal
* Be at least 21 years of age
* Be a United States resident
* Be legally allowed to purchase a firearm (i.e. no felony record)
* Pass an ATF background check that usually needs 6 to 9 months to process (ATF Form 4)
* Include FBI Form FD-258s in black ink (fingerprint card)
* Pay a onetime fee of $200
We propose this regulation be made retroactive; current ownership of an assault weapon should require passing of the more stringent background check.
