Because the Angeles National Forest north of the Riverwood Ranch, Little Tujunga Canyon, and the Oak Spring and Gold Creek and surrounding areas are heavily trafficked by equestrians, hikers, and mountain bikers, and are therefore high density recreation areas;
Because these areas have always been used for that recreation;
Because these areas are crisscrossed by designated equestrian, hiking and biking trails and Forest Service roads, it is nearly impossible to maintain the legal 150 yard distance from trails and roads and/or one half mile from residences;
Because hunters are not necessarily familiar with the trail and road systems in these areas in order to maintain correct distances from roads, trails, and homes;
Because the number of hunters and nature enthusiasts has increased dramatically and will continue to do so;
Because these areas are checker-boarded with private land that cannot be hunted on without written permission;
Because it is impossible to enforce hunter safety laws everywhere at once in hunting areas, and it is therefore dangerous for equestrians, hikers, and mountain bikers;
We, the undersigned, petition that the Angeles National Forest Areas North and West of the Riverwood Ranch, Little Tujunga Canyon and surrounding area, and the Oak Spring and Gold Creek and surrounding areas be designated as No Hunting Zones:
