Active Threat Drills For FA

Active Threat Drills For FA
Why this petition matters
Shootings are a global issue that is only worsening as time marches on. Since the shooting at Sandy Hook in 2012 there have been over 3,900 mass shootings and since the shooting at Robb Elementary in Texas just about a week ago there have been 17 shootings. Many Fryeburg Academy students have voiced that they don't feel safe at school due to this and that they wouldn't know what they would do if a shooting were to ever happen on campus. Teachers get the active threat training, however, it would be beneficial if students got the similar training just incase.
Our school should have active threat drills at least a few times a year, if not more so every Fryeburg Academy student knows what to do in an active threat situation based off of where they are. Fryeburg Academy is a very college like campus with many differently designed buildings where the protocol may be different based off of where you are and the design of the building you're in. A detailed email has been sent to the deans, which has not been seen yet. A few teachers have been spoken to about this concern and agree with my opinion. By signing this petition you are agreeing that Fryeburg Academy should have active threat drills and should teach students what to do incase of an active threat, where to go, how to protect themselves and what to do if they find themselves in an unfortunate situation when the threat is issued like being in a bathroom, switching classes, locked out of a room or stuck outside.
Thank you to everybody who will sign this, who has helped me through this process and who supports the idea of active threat drills. No child should feel unsafe at school and nobody should be left clueless in a situation where they fear or their life. If we know there is a chance it could happen we should be prepared and we should be taught how to protect ourselves.
