Act Now To Prevent Gun Violence in Schools
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
The tragic school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida has vividly reminded us that we need to take immediate action to protect our schools from gun violence.
Members of the RTMSD community are requesting that the Board of School Directors (School Board) approve and adopt the below resolutions to show its commitment to and support of gun safety laws.
The Resolution requests that the RTMSD School Board:
- Support laws that require universal background checks on any person attempting to purchase a gun;
- Support laws prohibiting a person (excluding law enforcement) from possessing a weapon in school buildings, on school grounds, or on transportation to or from any public elementary or secondary school;
- Oppose any laws that would permit teachers or other RTMSD employees to carry guns in schools; and
- Support laws that seek to ban military-style weapons.
