Please sign to petition the ACT to take IMMEDIATE ACTION and do the following:

  • Create additional testing dates on all weekends in September and early October that is dedicated solely to rising SENIORS.
  • Add additional testings sites to all September and early October test dates (for current test dates and any additional dates being added).
  • If the ACT cannot accommodate ALL seniors that are requesting dates in September and October, postpone testing registrations for all currently registered juniors until the December 2020 date and the exam dates in the spring of 2021.

While we recognize the changing environment of a worldwide pandemic, the ACT has had ample time and resources to prepare a plan that would accommodate students who are counting on this exam for their applications to colleges and universities this fall. The ACT cancelled the April and June tests for all students and the July test for most students, and for some of those students, did so just one week before the exam. Students have spent endless hours preparing for these exams and many families have spent thousands of dollars for prep classes and tutors. This is a stressful process for high school students in a normal year, but the frustrations experienced with the incompetence of the ACT exam registration process has created tremendous emotional distress for these students.

On August 3rd, the ACT made their registration process available to ALL students. Yet even after multiple hours online, many seniors were unable to register for any September dates or even October dates. Some families were even willing to drive or fly to other states to take the exam and weren't able to sign up and some families are unable to travel anyway.

Since many students are still unable to take the exam once, let along multiple times, this system is completely inequitable and many students may be at a huge disadvantage in the application process. Even if students were able to obtain a testing date in October or December, the scores will not be back in time for students wishing to meet early action or early decision deadlines.

It is also completely unacceptable that the ACT did not provide a system that prioritized seniors over juniors for the upcoming exams, ultimately blocking many seniors from test taking. And for those who have had to reach out to the ACT, have been met with hours on hold and only to be disconnected and told they are too busy to answer calls.

We urge all students and parents to sign this petition and share it across the United States as this is something that is impacting all of us. Regardless of whether you have a current senior or not, please sign and let the ACT know they need to take action immediately to give these students their opportunity to test.
