This happened to me. I was 11 weeks, my pregnancy was going well, the midwife assured me it was perfectly safe. The next day I started spotting brown blood. I then went back in for a recheck 5 days later and still was spotting brown. They then did an hcg blood test me and a few days later they called me to tell me that my hcg level had dropped and that I was having a miscarriage. This was horrific. I’m still grieving and I am heart broken.

I am signing this because it happened to me. I had an ultrasound with my fertility doctor he confirmed I was pregnant and everything was progressing well. I was sent to find an obgyn. 2 weeks later I went for my first appointment and the obgyn did a papsmear. I started bleeding that day, it has increased every day since first brown blood, then pink, now deep red. I go in for an ultrasound today 3 days later. I am hoping for the best but don’t know. I do know that before the papsmear I was fine and two doctors confirmed a healthy pregnancy.

I went to the dr when I was 13.5 weeks pregnant and I had a strong healthy baby growing with a good heart beat....took all my vitals and blood work as well as my pap. This isn’t the first time around being pregnant I have had two successful pregnancies and many paps done in my life. This particular one was very uncomfortable & it hurt. The test results came back great from the blood work and there was no cause for alarm only to have miscarried my baby a week later. The worst experience of my life. I had severe hemorrhaging and the placenta that I was told I didn’t have (the night before in the ER) - was holding my cervix open causing me to lose over 40% of blood. I was rushed to emergency operating and the dr had two bags of blood ready to go. I’m convinced it was the pap.

I'm signing because I lost my son 2 hours after getting a pap smear. There were no abnormalities. I had been tested both of my prior visits.

This is my 3rd pregnancy. My first two I did not requiere a Pap smear since I had already had one done less than 1 year before my pregnancy. I had no trouble with those pregnancies at all. With this pregnancy after I had my Pap smear I began spotting, cramping and then bleeding heavily. Thankfully baby is doing fine but I never had the problem before. Bleeding and spotting began after Pap smear.

This just happened to a friend of mine. She had her Nexplanon implant removed. A month later she went in to get a Pap smear at the same clinic. Told doctor that she had a missed period. The gyno doctor did the Pap smear before the urine test results came back. A nurse came running in to tell doctor that she had a positive pregnancy on the urine test. The Pap smear had already been completed. She was only about 4 weeks pregnant according to the dates indicated by her missed period. But with no complications so far, or bleeding of any kind. That night, the night of the smear, she started bleeding. She got a second blood test the next day and it showed decrease in the pregnancy hormone. She had miscarried the night of the smear.

I'm writing this in 2020 and I just had a pap smear done last Friday, December 4th, my OBGYN still administered pap smear even after the nurse confirmed the result that I was pregnant and I also took a pregnancy test at home before my appointment and saw I was positive and even got so excited! But all it took was 2 days before my miscarriage started happening after my pap smear. And I never had any history of miscarriage and I have 3 kids, all healthy pregnancies with no pap smear. I am completely heartbroken and I feel I killed my own baby for not knowing the harm even if my doctor said it's safe. I am in so much sorrow as I write this. If I could please God turn back the time. PLEASE DO NOT HAVE ANY PAP SMEAR DONE WHEN YOU'RE PREGNANT. EVER.

PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH DO NOT GET A PAP SMEAR DURING PREGNANCY.
This post is not meant to give any one person
a bad review. This is meant to bring awareness to something in women’s healthcare that is terribly wrong. I have miscarried twice now directly after having a Pap smear done and I don’t see how this can be a “coincidence” as I was told after the first miscarriage(6 years ago at 9 weeks pregnant) and then also after the last one(1 month ago at almost 13 weeks). I had a healthy pregnancy in between where I did NOT have a pap and now have a beautiful three year old daughter.
This is not to say that every pap causes a miscarriage-plenty of women go on to have a healthy pregnancy after them. However, not every woman is the same and each and every one of us should be treated as an individual. Clearly some of us are more sensitive and it is not advantageous to have sharp objects shoved up into our cervix, spasming the uterus which holds precious life. When you really research this subject there are plenty who have experienced the same thing.
Diane Byrd did my pap at my 12 week prenatal appointment-I was told I was due. It hurt, I bled a ton directly after. I had just seen my bouncing baby up on the screen-what a nice strong heartbeat I was told. I started cramping after, though this can be normal.
The following three days my contraction like cramping got worse. I called the office and explained my symptoms to Dodie- she said I should be just fine and to rest and drink plenty of water. The next two days were miserable, I was spotting, cramping, bleeding, exhausted- it felt like a storm was goin on inside me. Before the pap I felt completely fine-zero cramping or bleeding. Two days later I miscarried at my home just before we were going to go to the hospital. I held my baby in palms, a boy, and said goodbye.
The day after I went into be checked and get my rogam shot-I’m rH negative. I saw Theresa Buckley due to Diane Byrd being out. I stated that I was certain that my miscarriage was due to the pap. She said no it wasn’t. I asked if she had ever heard of women who thought they may have miscarried due to a pap and she said yes but there’s no scientific research. I said THAT’S THE PROBLEM. I wasn’t offered any resources for dealing with miscarriage or trauma after explaining what had happened, I was only told to not get a pap next time(like I would EVER get a pap done again while being pregnant) and that we could start trying again after my second period.
Currently, for women 30-65 paps are recommended every 5 years if done with HPV testing. I am 32 and I have had a pap done within that time. Even if you get the pap done while pregnant and you are diagnosed with cervical cancer, which is very rare, the majority of the time NOTHING is done until after the baby is born. So WHY are paps still being done while women are pregnant in the US? WHY NOT JUST WAIT? Many other countries don’t do them at all until after. And cervical cancer generally is a very slow moving cancer that takes years to become aggressive. We are told being pregnant that there is of a risk of miscarriage due to things like drinking coffee and eating deli meat, BUT WE ARE TOLD THERE IS ZERO RISK OF MISCARRIAGE AFTER HAVING YOUR VERY SENSITIVE CERVIX SCRAPED? THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND NEEDS TO CHANGE. Please, do your research and be your own advocate. I don’t want anyone to go through what I’ve been through and what so many others have. If you have experienced this, please, speak up, make a difference. And to healthcare providers out there-you need to make a change. I know I won’t stop writing reviews and telling my story until something does.

I went in for my first appointment yesterday to confirm my pregnancy. I also was vaccinated 12 years ago for hpv. I was given a Pap smear and immediately started cramping and bleeding. My doctor said it was normal to beed after a pap while pregnant. The bleeding and cramping severely progressed throughout the day. Around 1 am my cramps were 10/10 and believe I miscarried. The timing is too coincidental.
