Why this petition matters

Started by Zia Holloway

In March of 2020, the world was turned upside down. Millions of plans, trips, and events were cancelled all around the world. Schools were closed, and it was only the beginning of something that none of us could have predicted. Now, a year later, we are on our way back to normal. Help ACHS students get one step closer to normal by signing this petition!

Anderson County High School has made the decision to not allow students who are remote learning to attend Prom. Although we attend ACHS, do the same work, and are held to the same standards as in-person students, we are not allowed to attend our school's prom, though the students who attend the Alternative School are.

We have been told we cannot attend Prom because we are not allowed to participate in KSHSAA (Kansas State High Schools Activities Association) activities. To refute that statement, prom is not a KSHSAA regulated activity. Furthermore, students who attend the Alternative School cannot participate in KSHSAA regulated activities but are allowed to attend Prom.

As remote students, we have the same school work, teachers, attendance requirements, and schedule as In Person Students (with less support), and we are registered students at ACHS.

All we are asking is for one semi-normal night to spend with the rest of our peers. Please allow us this opportunity to feel the excitement and anticipation for an event that we have not been able to feel in over a year

Thank you for taking the time to sign this petition and consider our point of view
