ACCOMMODATE THE DISABLED IN COLLEGES

ACCOMMODATE THE DISABLED IN COLLEGES
Why this petition matters

Being disabled comes with many challenges, but feeling like a burden shouldn't be one of them. Per the law, we as disabled individuals have rights, ones that we are legally entitled to. However, even with those rights, we still have to fight. See, schools want to give off this montage that they're "inclusive" and "diverse" but when it comes time to accommodate people of different abilities they're not willing. They claim it's a "burden" or not "feasible". BGSU Firelands being one of them.
My question is, why does it have to be like this? Why do people have to sit here and fight like hell for the rights to which they are entitled? Why is it that classes can only be made remote when a school deems it "fit" but not when a student is disabled and medically needs it? Why is it that doctors with medical degrees and extensive diagnostic testing are not enough to convenience these schools that these accommodations are necessary? Why is it that they insist on making our lives harder as disabled individuals when life is already hard enough with a disability? Most importantly, why do they ignore these very obvious and giant issues?
Well, it's simple. They don't care. They are not the person who has to live with a disability. They are not the person who has to fight for their rights. They are not the person who has to deal with bias and discrimination because they are different. They are not the person who has to jump through hoops to prove how sick/handicapped they are. They are able, in which we are not. That's just the hard truth.
And that needs to change.
