Flight Centre and their subsidiaries are operating as rouge businesses, by withholding refunds, providing no service and making it impossible for customers to even contact them. They are in effect trading insolvent.

They are keeping money that does not rightly belong to them.

It is wrong to have to pay to get a refund when it is your legal right.

Keeping our money is govt sanctioned blackmail, forcing us to use the same airline that has let us down and ripped us off.

Dear Mr Glezer

Since March 21 2020, all travel agencies worldwide came to a complete standstill, due to the Global Pandemic, Covid-19. Since this date, no travel agent has earnt an income. In fact, from this date, all travel agents have lost a substantial amount of money, and also, they have been made redundant or reduced their hours to a bare minimum.

From this date, hundreds of thousands of airline, cruise, hotel, rail, and coach operators/ workers have lost their jobs. They have gone from earning a decent salary, to now nothing. Not to mention those that have lost their lives, houses, cars, and more.

Travel agents around the world, including myself, are working for FREE. This means, in lamen terms, ZERO INCOME! We are receiving verbal and written abuse, death threats, legal threats, credit card chargebacks, attempts to debit our companies trust account, and more.

Thanks to you, and people like you, these social media groups are just adding fuel to the fire, of which, you have absolutely no idea what a travel agent does. Yes, you may have worked for Flight Centre for a short period of time, and yes, you may have paid a $600 deposit on an international trip with your wife, however, this my friend, does not give you the right to constantly advise the public that "everyone is entitled to a refund".

You clearly have zero ideas on what going into trying to obtain a refund from a principal that has either had reduced staffing numbers by 99% and/ or even and it is happening, gone into receivership/ administration. Then, the agent has to spend hours upon hours to try and attempt to receive the refund, and that's if we even receive a response. Oh and not to forget, that, we the agent during all of this time, are spending our own money on electricity and systems to continue to lose money!

Whilst, you might have a legal background, but serious kid, you need to stop this! Our industry was the FIRST to go down, and still, without actual support to save our industry we won't survive, and that means, even to maintain credit notes, and when they do arrive, the refunds are due to the client.

A refund Adam is a word. It's not a fact. COVID-19 rules change all the time, and it's in the right of the principle to offer that refund if they choose. If they renege, then a credit note is valid for a term. However, again, I state, the terms are written by the principal, not the travel agent. The travel agent doesn't even have the funds on file, on as you would say "in their trust account".

The fact of the matter is that a refund, if successful, can and will take time and then, anything can happen in between. If the refund is not successful, then it's not OUR FAULT! We don't think you should blame us for this!

All travel agents are entitled to charge fees on top of their commissions. If the customer feels that is inappropriate, then it's their bad luck because, at the end of the day, the agency, staff, and business have lost more than the overall refund position within that business. Like my company, I have lost 4 Million Dollars, but, the consumer doesn't really think about that, do they?

They only think about what people like you say to them and what you are saying to them, you have no idea about the entire decimate industry outside the travel agent's control, and of course, yours!

*Lastly, with many agents struggling to pay their personal and business expenses, we are lucky even to make ends meet. Previous government grants haven't even touched the surface and also, with a complete lack of financial assistance to say that we are struggling is even an understatement!

Keeping airfares during this crisis is unethical. It is legalised theft. Who knows when the border cloures will lifted? In time for me to pay to use my credits?
