Stop Paying for Webassign

We the undersigned wish for those professors at Acadia University using Webassign to find an alternate method for test and assignment submission and evaluation. We recognize the outstanding reputation and teaching that occurs at Acadia having been ranked second by Maclean's magazine, which has us students incredulously questioning why some professors would opt for a such a substandard method as Webassign. Not only is it archaic and cumbersome, it has abysmal review ratings as reported by many websites and presents an unnecessary expense for students who are already heavily burdened with overtly high tuition costs. Moreover, the value of any education is highly dependent on the evaluation and personal feedback from professors. Though possibly unintentional, the optics from those professors foisting Webassign on unsuspecting students at Acadia suggests an apathetic insouciance towards quality instruction and evaluation. Acadia proudly advertises that it “cares deeply for students”. If this statement is one that transcends mere advertising, we ask that professors rethink their use of such ineffective and costly services and opt for evaluating their students’ work personally, which certainly must be part of what students are paying for.
