Recognize Stunt Actors and Coordinators at the Academy Awards

Many of us are anxiously awaiting the 2015 Academy Awards, which will once again highlight the film industry’s best cinematic achievements in February. The Oscars is quick to highlight the actors, the producers and the musicians, but not one group of unsung heroes: stunt actors. That’s right, this hard-working and incredibly talented group of artists have never been recognized in the 87-year history of the show. Can you believe that?
These actors often sacrifice their lives to entertain us in a way that not many can, so it’s clear that they are long overdue for the deserved recognition. That’s why I am urging the Academy Awards to add “Best Stunt Actor/Coordinator” as an Oscar category.
Movies are incredibly complex productions, and the stunts are often critical to their success. You would be hard-pressed to find a movie that doesn’t involve some kind of stunt. Think about your favorite films that feature scenes that take your breath away. From “Transformers” to “The Hangover 2,” stunt coordinators and actors have put their lives on the line -- sometimes suffering serious injury or loss of life -- to deliver some of the greatest feats we’ve seen in movie history.
Most people know Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Garner. But do you know Andy Armstrong, Jack Gill and Patrick Gallaway? These are some of the behind-the-scenes performers who make the films that you love that much more special. They’re not household names because we’ve never recognized them, but the unique talent they bring to any film is certainly deserving of the most notable awards in the business.
Let’s make this year’s show the last one without a stunt actors category. Without the public’s support of the show, there would be no Oscars, so now is the time to voice our interest in making this happen! Please sign this petition if you agree!
