Sugar-sweetened beverages are taxed in Seattle. The goal of this tax was to reduce health care costs in medium to high-income families. What legislators ignored is that lower-income families are on average much larger consumers of these beverages making this tax regressive. Instead, we should make taxes that target the wealthy and not the lower class.
