Energy companies should be abolishing the compulsory standing charge, as the energy prices soar beyond the reach of the majority of households in the UK. 

It used to be an option to pay a standing charge, and a slightly reduced rate, or no standing charge and a higher rate per unit. 

This is no longer an option, so current charges put us about £2 per day for gas and electricity before even trying to cut back. 

In these hard times, the utility companies need to stop with the greed, and give the option back to the consumer!

We need the chance to actually reduce bills by not using as much energy, through our choice, but we're just paying over the odds for nothing as a starting point. 

Affordability is the issue for energy, so standing charges should be abolished to give us half a chance of getting through the winter and beyond. 

With bills to reach the ridiculous £5-7K next year, something must be done now.
