Why this petition matters

Started by Matthew Salinardi

My name is Matthew Salinardi and although the subject of immigration is relevant especially to my life, I implore President Biden, and the rest of the US government for their efforts in reforming the immigration process for all, not only me and my wife, Leonela Vargas Garcia.

My proposal is that this country has truly open borders again. That virtually all of those who wish to immigrate to this country are allowed to do so free of copious charges for forms and other miscellaneous costs, free of long delays waiting for approval and various permissions. My proposal is not one of untamed borders however. I believe it would be in the best interest of all immigrants, and this country, that upon entry they go through general documentation at customs, so their presence here is known and maybe a few details of who they are. I do not think we should offer financial aid to our immigrants, unless there are unique and demanding circumstances. The point of my proposal is to allow once again for the influx of the worlds people to be welcome within our lands, not to receive financial aid from the government, or to be clandestine in their lives here, but to simply be. One might say my proposal is comparable to the attitude taken throughout much of the twentieth century. Let the lands of liberty once again be open for all races and creeds, so they might cherish the pursuit of happiness The United States has so long encouraged.

Is this not the Republic which has prided itself on freedom and opportunity for over two hundred years? Both my sets of grandparents were immigrants, coming by boat with little belongings they could speak for. But they were admitted after stepping off their boats; and from their scraps, they formed their crafts, their passions, and their families. Why now is legitimate longing to enter the land of the brave met with distrust, deliberation, or even denial? I ask for my government's, and my fellow citizen's ears, and aid in reforming this immigration process, so it will be expedient for the good of the immigrants, and further, the land they dream their future within.
