We are starting this petition with regards to the ongoing conversation revolving around the infamous telephone booth that's located here in Pennan.
Back in april 2020, my husband Roland, my son Dominik and I truly came over to live in Pennan, and that's when we took over the Pennan Inn. We rebranded it to become the Pennan Inn - BnB & Gallery.
While the telephone booth has been the focal point of a lot of conversations that are currently ongoing regarding the village and it's significant details, we cannot overlook how important the telephone booth is to the general safety of the village and it's residents. Pennan is notoriously plagued with bad reception, and you will barely ever get decent signal on your mobile phone. The booth is convenient enough because you don't have to rely on outside factors to actually reach out to somebody. It could prove to be a lifesaver one day!
Another aspect that can't go unnoticed is the backstory and historic significance behind the telephone booth. As you may already know, it gained a lot of fame and popularity by appearing in the movie "Local Hero". The movie still has a large following despite being multiple decades old by now, but it's very much a fact that the telephone booth is responsible for the large draw that this village has towards tourists and people visiting from the surrounding area. The booth is located just outside of our Inn, and we can attest to the fact that it's main reason a lot of people come and visit Pennan. Majority of the people that decide to stay at our Inn identify as hardcore supporters of the movie and everything that's related to it. Would you believe it if I told you that we've seen guests and visitors break down in tears as soon as they caught a glimpse of the telephone booth? It's safe to say that even the toughest of guys have found themselves tear up because of how much it meant to them to be able to see a relic of a movie as prestigious as Local Hero. To make a phone call from this famous telephone booth is the dream of a lifetime for a lot of visitors! Pennan connects people all around the world - isn't that great? Such a small village with such rich history! We rely on the phonebox to be operational.
It shouldn't come as a surprise by now that we get a ton of requests for a room with a direct view of the telephone booth, and it's one of our prime commodities over here for a reason.
The telephone booth needs to stay here and needs to be maintained accordingly at all costs! If Pennan were to lose its prized possession, we would not only lose a good chunk of history that's tied to this place, but also the one piece that's responsible for the flair of this village.
