Prevent Egypt from fining Suicide Attempts (منع مصر من تغريم محاولات الانتحار)
Issues regarding Mental health have been more prominent ever since the initiation of the pandemic and as awareness of such conditions began to spread you'd find it quite surprising that a member of the Egyptian parliament brought up the idea to fine 'second' suicide attempts.
That same member of the parliament suggested that after someone's first attempt, they should be sent to a governmental psych ward for not less than three months before being released.
This indicates that people would still pay a fine, but only after their second attempt. This is still bizarre since it's anticipated that people who attempted once are more likely to attempt again within the first three months to a year.
Not only that but the amount of money fined is speculated to be around 10,000-50,000 Egyptian pounds. This clearly doesn't make sense since around 30.6 million people in Egypt are below the poverty line.
Approximately 792 million people in the world suffer from mental health issues, and being one of those people myself, I find it almost offensive that Egypt would want to benefit from other people's sufferings.
Which is why I have made this petition form to fight against the initiation of this ableist 'law'.
