People have forgotten the horrors of a society where children aren't all vaccinated against various diseases. Ask someone who remembers when these illnesses were common. Vaccines are basically the most important element in public health with the exception of soap and sewers.

As a Clinical Microbiologist, I must state my deep disappointment that Jenny McCarthy is being considered for such a high profile show. Unless The View is going into this with the intention of seriously debating the issue on the show with a newly positioned host, I find the elevation of a person with such outspoken and frankly, dangerous views, irresponsible. Please reconsider. Thank you.

This is important to me because I am a public health nurse. I see all socio-economic and educational levels of clients. Spreading unproven information that for some might make the difference between their children being protected against a vaccine preventable disease or not is absolutely an abusive way to put children in danger. Educate yourself! Don't take the word of a non medical person and gamble with your child's well being. Be sure your sources of information are backed by scientific ressearch and recommendation of reliable and respectable organizations. Your child's health is not a conspiracy!

Giving the public misinformation about vaccines from a platform such as The View is both dangerous and upsetting. Giving any validity to Ms. McCarthy's stance on vaccines as a legitimate point of view is irresponsible. It is my hope that The View takes the responsible path here. As a healthcare provider, I have seen first hand the devastation from vaccine preventable diseases.
