ABC calls upon BCC to stop placing 'Looked After Children' in 'Unregulated Placements'
Why this petition matters
Last year 21-22 Birmingham City Council (BCC) placed 345 of our most vulnerable and traumatised 'Looked After Children' (38 of these children were under the age of 16....which is illegal) in unsafe 'Unregulated Placements'.
These children are legally looked after by BCC who have a statutory responsibility to protect them and provide them with safe accommodation.
These private placements run for profit are NOT subject to ANY formal inspection or regulation by Ofsted or any of the statutory bodies.
Within these unsafe placements, our children are often subject to living with adults who expose our children to sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation and fear.
Our most vulnerable local children's basic human rights are being sacrificed by the very people (BCC) who have a legal duty to protect them. Just because a government decree made it legal to place vulnerable 16 and 17 in unsafe unregulated placements does, not make it right or morally acceptable.
This practice has to stop NOW to:
1) Prevent further suffering and abuse of our most vulnerable young people
2) Future legal claims against BCC for breaching these young people's human rights.
