Ask ABC to correctly portray CRPS patients on TV series Station 19
Why this petition matters

Recently, two episodes on Station 19 on ABC has featured a character with CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.). Unfortunately, this character was portrayed poorly and eventually developed an addiction to opiates, thus leading the viewer to presumably associate CRPS with drug addiction and drug abuse. This was an extremely unfair and inaccurate presentation of CRPS patients. CRPS is the most painful condition known to man and is extremely difficult to treat. Jenna Wells, a 14 year old girl suffering with CRPS, writes the following about her conditon: I can't take hot showers without feeling like my legs are on fire, i can’t touch my my legs without them becoming discolored and extremely painful, i can’t dance or cheer anymore.I have missed my whole freshman year of high school." She further goes on to explain how this condition affects her daily life: "Kids are cruel, I am no stranger to 'she’s faking it for attention' or 'get up and walk' comments." Educating ABC's viewers with a brief synopsis of CRPS and providing information on where to find support as opposed to enhancing the stigma of chronic pain patients being addicts is a more responsible way of raising awareness.
