On December 1st, 9 year-old Hala, was struck by a bus while on her way to Ten-Broeck Elementary. Soon after, she succumbed to her injuries. The crossing guard was ill and unable to be at his post this particular day. School crossing guards in Abbotsford are volunteers. There are school crossings in Abbotsford that go unmanned. Crossing guards should be paid positions. At the very least, if a crossing guard is unable to be at his/her post, there should be another crossing guard to cover that post. Children deserve to be able to safely get to school.
