We NEED to ACT NOW.

Students, parents, and faculty are struggling to not only support themselves but others. Transition to digital learning is not easy, especially when basic needs and resources are not present for the success of EVERY student.

COVID-19 has created an unprecedented crisis for Washington State University and College campuses across the globe. Students are scared, are jobless, and many NEED support during this crisis. We are in a global pandemic; we need to understand that students' performances will not all be the same. Many are undergoing a lot of mental/emotional health traumas, battling toxic environments, dealing with the stressors of transitioning online, and the possibility of not being recognized for all their efforts throughout their years here at WSU.

That is why WE the students of Washington State University are petitioning for the 3 Demands:

1. Allow students to individually choose whether they would like Pass/Fail grades or Graded Work which will be a modified Triple-A Model like (UC Berkeley's stated below), with the first 30% of the class to receive at A+, the middle 30% an A, the bottom 30% an A-, and the last 10 percent B+. More than anything, we need to prioritize student wellness and the commitment to academics.
2. WSU students deserve to receive a partial refund for Spring Semester due to the facilities being closed down and the resources students are no longer able to utilize (UREC, Operation and Maintenance, resources, and other related programs). Students are struggling because a significant source of their income is gone, and it is wrong to charge students for things they are not using.
3. Although WSU has not announced whether Graduation will be canceled, we urge WSU administration to work on rescheduling instead of canceling an event that means so much to families and students. Being proactive is what we need during this time.

In order to perform to our best ability, we must be in the right mental, emotional, and physical state. The transition to ONLINE courses after Spring Break cause much uncertainty for students. Many listed below.

-Students have no other place to go.

-Students are escaping their homes because of toxic situations.

-Students with no resources at home and unable to use WSU resources.

-Students who do not do well ONLINE are not having to transition to a platform that is difficult and puts them at a disadvantage.

-Students with all types of health issues are now concerned for not only their own well-being but their families, friends, and community.

We call on President Kirk Schulz, Provost Bryan K. Slinker, the Faculty Senate, and the WSU Regents to hear our demands. We also call for other Universities and Colleges across Washington to advocate for the implementation of such a policy across the board, and for the WSU Regents to recognize and acknowledge our plea.

The 3 Demands:

1. Support the adoption of letting students pick Pass/Fail grades or Graded Work, which will be a modified Triple-A Model grading system for the Spring term of the 2019-2020 academic year in order to alleviate extenuating stress from students during this global pandemic.
2. WSU students deserve to receive a partial refund for Spring Semester due to the facilities being closed down, and the resources students are no longer able to utilize.
3. Although WSU has not announced whether Graduation will be canceled, we urge WSU administration to work on rescheduling instead of canceling an event that means so much to families and students. Being proactive is what we need during this time.
