Due to the progression of the Coronavirus epidemic, online classes have been forced upon students in UNC System. We believe that the appropriate and valued response to this predicament is that students will be either passed or failed in their courses for the second semester. This action is reasonable being that many of the classes that have to be converted to an online setting do not fit this setting properly. Also, not all students are able to easily adjust to having classes online, and may not get the most benefit throughout their courses from being self taught online as they did when in a traditional class setting. This would potentially affect the grades of students, and this is not fair to students that have been working hard and are affected by the change from a traditional class setting to an online one. In addition, many of the professors at our universities, while being highly professional, and great forces in their fields, have very little to no experience managing courses online. Furthermore, the grading process will be severely limited and will place stress on to students who have much less control over their ability to properly prepare for exams. Also, the well-being of students that may be suffering due to this devastating time must be considered. This is a time that people are highly affected due to sickness and loss, and students, even if not directly, are affected by this. As well as professors, and other staff members in UNC System. The benefits of implementing this administrative change severely outweigh the risks. It is much more fair to students rather than potentially risking students GPA, transcripts, and future careers due to the coronavirus epidemic after they have worked hard during the semester. We hope that the UNC System may enact this change to the benefit of the entire student community.
