A pedestrian was killed by a speeding car at this intersection yesterday (https://local.nixle.com/alert/6289329/?sub_id=2072927). Let's not lose any more lives at this known dangerous intersection.
Zebra crossing at the intersection of E. Warren Ave and Bradley St in Warm Springs, Fremont, CA 94539 is not safe. A large number of people, mainly families with kids, use this crossing every day. People use this crossing mainly to go to James Leitch Elementary, Warm Springs Elementary and Warm Springs Community Center and Park.
Many people who use this crossing regularly have experienced close calls, where a pedestrian would have been hit by a car speeding down the hill on E. Warren Ave. Our fears became real yesterday, Dec 6, 2017, when a pedestrian was struck fatally by a car speeding downhill. The incident happened in the evening. We, the residents of the area(and frequent users of this crossing) are deeply saddened and frustrated by the incident. We knew how dangerous this crossing was, and feared in our hearts that someone was going get killed at this intersection. The situation is particularly bad in the evenings when poor visibility makes this already dangerous crossing deadly. Several residents made attempts in the past to get this problem addressed. Unfortunately, the dangerous situation remains as is.
Dear Mayor Lily Mei and City of Fremont, let's solve this problem.
Options to alleviate community safety concerns:
1. Install cameras at the intersection
2. Install speed breakers to slow down the speeding traffic
3. Replace current yield sign on Warren Ave with a stop sign on both sides
4. Install flashing orange lights
5. Install traffic lights
6. Install street lights. Evening/Night visibility is very poor at this crossing.
Let's not lose any more lives at this dangerous crossing.
