Colombian family is in regressive time facing a deportation that would once again put their lives at risk.

Hello, my name is Harold Alexander Cañaveral Castro. On October 4, 2022, we were notified at the Canadian Border Service Agency (CBSA) office, of a . On October 28, they gave us an order to leave Canada, and we had to present air tickets dated for November 12th.I am asking to please consider my petition and request to STOP the removal and deportation order of myself, my wife Paola Andrea Realpe Piedrahita, my 6 years old daughter Salome Cañaveral Realpe.

I am making this request to all entities of the government of Canada, that can have a direct so that my clamor can be heard in order to stop the deportation and removal order.

We are a Colombian family that arrived in Canada in 2019 fleeing from the violence that attacks, corrodes and destroys our native country. Having gone through so much pain, persecution, threats and loneliness, we started from scratch in this country where we feel safe, calm, welcomed and at peace. My wife and I began to study English and we immersed ourselves in the language, as well as my daughter Salome, who is studying her first grade at San Basil Catholic School, in Mississauga, Ontario. Together with my wife, we began to have a working life, we created a company and everything was going very well.

However, on February 18, our refugee application was denied and since then we have been fighting an endless battle between courts, appealing at every instance so that we can continue with our lives under the protection of this beautiful country.

Amid this endless struggle, my daughter has had to be frequently evaluated for respiratory issues and when I finally managed to get an appointment with the specialist, the frustration and impotence overwhelms us in thinking that she cannot go to the specialist, nor be treated properly.

Now, with the anguish of a departure order and tickets, bought under pressure, in hand, time has become a torment for my family and me. For my daughter Salome, a girl who has always been cheerful, happy, outgoing, her days and nights have turned into sadness and depression, because she cries constantly asking me why she needs to stop seeing her cousins, uncles, family, friends from her school, change her life, her home.

On the other hand, Paola, my wife is completely devastated, because her two brothers, the only family she has who have supported us, live here in Canada. For my part, I still do not understand the reason for the abandonment, disinterest and coldness that my family and I are receiving from the entities that are supposed to provide us with support, security and protection. I understand that the decisions of justice are not always the most favorable for those who claim refuge, and that is why I do not give up
and I allow myself to write this letter to be heard and to try to explain that the reasons for my request are strong enough to save us, rather than abandon and destroy a family fighting for an opportunity.

It is something that I stand by with conviction, understanding that the appeals that were denied and the decisions that were made affect us so radically; not only because of the fact of leaving this country, but of returning to a place where we no longer have anything and what is worse, even if we wanted to, it is impossible for us to return. From the moment we became aware that our lives were in imminent danger, we abandoned
everything and left everything behind, our family, friends, the business I had, my wife's job, everything was left behind, because we were forced to lose everything and have any contact at all. The only thing we know is that the parents of my wife Paola and her grandmother, elderly people, seeing that their lives began to be in danger, had to leave their home without leaving any contact information.

Why? Because our country is like that. It is not a secret to anyone, that Colombia has been a territory of kidnapping and terrorism and now more than ever, it is going through critical moments where fear, the prevailing dominance of armed groups and deaths are common from day to day anywhere, in any corner of our country.

My family and I are fighting against time; I really do not know what will happen to my life, to my daughter and my wife’s life. However, we applied for humanitarian compassion, we continue fighting for help, because we have felt so loved and feel so much love for Canada, and we believe that it was the best place to escape and flee from so much suffering and fear. Now we hope and trust that Canada will give us the opportunity that we dream of so much, and allow us to continue living in this wonderful, safe and peaceful country and to contribute to the construction of an exemplary society for the world.

Familia colombiana se encuentra en tiempo regresivo enfrentando una deportación que pondría nuevamente en riesgo sus vidas.

Mi nombre es Harold Alexander Cañaveral Castro. Me permito hacer esta petición a las entidades y al gobierno de Canadá para que pueda ser escuchado mi clamor por ser evaluada la solicitud de deportación de mi esposa Paola Andrea Realpe Piedrahita, mi hija Salome Cañaveral Realpe 6 años y la mía. 

El 4 octubre del 2022 recibimos una citación para presentarnos a las oficinas de Canadian Border Service Agency (CBSA). El 28 de octubre nos entregaron una orden de salida de Canadá, y tuvimos que presentar tiquetes aéreos con fecha para el 12 de noviembre.

Nosotros somos una familia colombiana que llegamos a Canadá en el 2019 huyendo de la violencia que arremete, corroe y destruye nuestro país natal. Viniendo de pasar por tanto dolor, persecución, amenazas y soledad, empezamos desde cero en este país donde nos sentimos seguros, tranquilos, acogidos y en paz. Mi esposa y yo empezamos a estudiar Ingles y nos afianzamos en el idioma, así como mi hija Salome, quien esta cursando su primer grado en Colegio Católico San Basil, en Mississauga, Ontario. Junto con mi esposa empezamos a hacer vida laboral, creamos empresa y todas las cosas estaban marchando muy bien.

Pero el 18 de febrero nuestra solicitud de refugio fue negada y desde entonces estamos guerreando una batalla sin fin entre cortes, apelando a todas las instancias posibles para que podamos continuar con nuestras vidas protegidas por este hermoso país. 

En medio de esta lucha interminable, mi hija ha tenido que ser evaluada frecuentemente por temas respiratorios y cuando finalmente logro obtener una cita con el especialista, la frustración e impotencia nos agobia, al pensar en que no pueda acudir al especialista y no pueda ser tratada debidamente. 

Ahora, con la angustia de una orden de salida y los tiquetes en mano comprados bajo presión, el tiempo se ha vuelto un tormento para mi familia y para mí. Para mi hija Salome, una niña que siempre ha sido alegre, feliz, extrovertida, sus dias y noches se le han convertido en tristeza y depresion, pues llora constantemente preguntandome porque debe de dejar de ver sus primos, tios, familia, amigos del conjunto, de su colegio, cambiar su vida, su hogar. Por otro lado, Paola mi esposa esta completamente destrozada, pues sus dos hermanos, su unica familia en contacto, que nos ha apoyado viven aca en Canada. Por mi parte, aun no comprendo el porqué del abandono, el desinterés y frialdad que mi familia y yo estamos recibiendo de las entidades que se supone nos deberían de brindar apoyo, seguridad y protección. Entiendo que las decisiones de la justicia no siempre son las más favorables para los que reclaman refugio, y es por eso que no me rindo y me permito hacer esta carta para buscar hacerme escuchar y para tratar explicar que las razones de mi petición son tan fuertes como para salvar o abandonar y destrozar una familia que lucha por una oportunidad. 

Es algo en que con convicción me sostengo, entendiendo que las apelaciones que fueron negadas y las decisiones que fueron tomadas nos afectan tan radicalmente, no solo por el hecho de abandonar este país, pero de volver al lugar donde ya no tenemos nada y lo que es peor, aunque quisiéramos, nos es imposible regresar. Desde el momento en que evidenciamos que ya nuestras vidas corrieron un eminente peligro, abandonamos todo y lo dejamos todo, la familia, amistades, el negocio que yo tenía, el trabajo de mi esposa, todo quedo atrás, pues fuimos obligados a perder todo y no tener contacto alguno. Lo único que sabemos es que los padres de mi esposa Paola y su abuela, personas con avanzada edad, al ver que sus vidas empezaron a correr peligro tuvieron que abandonar su vivienda sin dejar contacto alguno. ¿Por qué? Porque así es nuestro país, para nadie es un secreto que Colombia ha sido territorio de secuestro y terrorismo y ahora más que nunca atraviesa por momentos críticos donde el miedo, el dominio imperante de los grupos armados y las muertes es el común del día a día en cualquier parte, en cualquier rincón de nuestro país. 

Mi familia y yo estamos luchando contra el tiempo, la verdad no se que va a ser de mi vida y de la de mi hija y mi esposa. Pero aplicamos para compasion humanitaria y continuamos luchando por ayuda, pues nos hemos sentido tan amados y sentimos tanto amor por Canadá y consideramos que fue el mejor lugar para escapar y huir de tanto sufrimiento y temor. Ahora esperamos y confiamos en que Canadá nos brinde la oportunidad que tanto soñamos y nos permita continuar viviendo en esta maravillosa, segura y pacifica tierra para aportar en la construcción de una sociedad ejemplar para el mundo.
