A new date for Australia Day

My suggestion for a new date for Australia Day is 27th May.
On 27th May 1967, 90.77% of Australians (i.e. white Australians) voted "yes" in a constitutional referendum to improve Aboriginal rights and award citizenship to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
The very high "yes" vote marks a very significant first step towards racial equality within Australia although there is still a long way to go.
This date would also honour the tremendous effort of many people from both sides of the racial divide to achieve this result.
I believe 27th May would be less divisive and more inclusive of all Australians and a date which all Australians can celebrate together.
It represents something that Australians achieved rather than the British Empire.
