A healthy learning schedule for secondary school students
Did you know that ages 14-17 can only concentrate for 25-80 minutes? In a normal school year the periods are 70 minutes with four classes. This year they are 150 minutes with a 10 minute break and only 2 classes. We will not get an education if our classes are 150 minutes. Research shows that we cannot concentrate that long.
If students are forced to sit in a classroom for 150 minutes with one break they won't get any knowledge. There brains can't process the information and will get burnt out in a matter of 80 minuets or less.
I honestly think that students are getting less of an education this year because of their schedule. Most school around Ontario follow this schedule or something a like.
Schedule
9:05-10:20- Class A/C
10:20-10:30-Break
10:30-11:45-Class A/C
1145-12:20- Lunch
12:20-12:30-Travel Time
12:30-1:45-Class B/D
1:45-1:55-Break
1:55-3:10-Class B/D
See how students have to sit in a class for 2 1/2 hours? Only in the first hour and 10 minutes are students actually concentrating on what there teacher is teaching and speaking about. Even if a 14-17 year old does concentrate for 80 minutes over that time there attention span will get less and less and by the end of class they only remember what was said the first hour and a bit.
