A Fight for Students Mental Health is a Fight for Future Wealth
Why this petition matters
Statistically, one in five teens is affected by mental health especially in the school setting. As a class, we decided that mental health is an issue that needs more awareness/support in our school community and we want to act on it so that every UAI student receives the help they may need. Therefore, the senior civics group Z would like to introduce our peer mentorship program.
The peer mentorship program will allow students to gain advice on how to get through challenging times, teach students how to be a role model for their peers, discuss issues of the week that may pop up, and lastly teach students how to address things that may bother them. Overall, this program will consist of being a year-long program that takes place twice a week one period out of the day. The program will be run by students although with Ms. Danielle as an advisor. The mentors will come up with a question of the week and things to discuss with their mentees.
This idea originated from civic group Z wanting to add information about mental health and direct students towards where they can receive assistance whether it's inside or outside of school using our school´s support. This method of dissemination will allow every student to have access to support systems regarding their mental health and will show that our school community prioritizes its students academically, socially, and emotionally.
