Mandatory prison sentences for those interfering with AEDs and other life saving equipment

There appears to be a rise in the theft and/or vandalism of AEDs, which are being placed across our communities in Northern Ireland. These expensive life saving pieces of equipment are quite often funded by the communities themselves, and supported by bigger businesses.
As owner of MKB Medical I am working closely with the Henderson Group to install over 300 AEDs across Northern Ireland; I believe the Government, either locally at Stormont or nationally, needs to put special punitive measures in place to protect not only these AEDs, but also other life saving pieces of equipment such as throw ropes, life rings, interfering or damaging ambulances or fire appliances. As a paramedic, I believe these special punitive measures should also be applied to assaults on ambulance staff and firefighters carrying out their duties.
