Prevent Unnecessary Suffering

Edward Burbank
Uckfield, ENG, United Kingdom

Mar 19, 2018 — Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare's governing documents state:
Articles of Association, Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare
1. Objects:
1.1 The objects of the charity are
(1) To prevent and relieve cruelty to animals and to protect them from UNNECESSARY SUFFERING and to promote and encourage a knowledge and love of animals and of their proper care and treatment. [emphasis added].

'Necessary suffering' is that which an individual must endure for their own well being, eg life-saving surgery. 'Unnecessary suffering' is that which is inflicted on them without their consent or benefit; that which is inflicted on them for the pleasure, profit or convenience of another.

Since it has for some decades been widely acknowledged that animal products are not necessary to human nutrition, Raystede trustees are flouting their own governing documents, not only by paying for animals to be unnecessarily killed for the pleasure of their customers, but also by not promoting and encouraging a knowledge and love of animals which could be achieved with an exclusively vegan menu.

Please contact Raystede's trustees and ask them why they think it's ok to cause the suffering of countless animals by serving their flesh and secretions in the cafe which in turn encourages their visitors to do the same. Remind them that this practice conflicts with their governing documents. They are supposed to be PREVENTING UNNECESSARY SUFFERING and PROMOTING AND ENCOURAGING A LOVE OF ANIMALS.
