“There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.”
Truer words could not be said about a certain teenage couple, when On May 19th, 2019 Miguel Rodriguez-Perez and Sandra Rios-Chavez decided to run away together. Sadly, due to a difference in age, although not very significant, running away with a 17 yr-old girl while you are 18 years of age and considered an adult, comes with legal problems.
On May 21st, 2019 Miguel was arrested by Arizona officials for being a fugitive of the law.
Miguel has recounted that the day of the alleged kidnapping, it was raining excessively and every bone in his body was telling him no. He said the drive-thru, where Sandra had been working, was pouring with cars and she asked him to wait. She proceeded to meet him outside and was seen getting into his vehicle on her own will, a fact the media failed to mention. Afterwards they went to a Ross store to shop for clothes for Sandra, as she didn't have any. There is evidence out there, that sees these two teenagers shopping and going out to eat. Miguel ignored the voice inside himself that was telling him that perhaps they shouldn’t have left together. Yet in the end love conquers all and pushes us to do the nonsensical, losing our logic and reasoning.
You can read the article here and see how the media has presented him in a negative light and misconstrued the truth.
He is facing a felony charge which carries a maximum of five years in prison and is currently being held in custody on a $500,000 bond. There are people with considerably worse crimes set at lower bond amounts. We are asking for a reasonable bond for Miguel, so that he may come home to sleep in his own bed, hang out with his dogs and hug his family as he continues fighting this case.
Sandra and Miguel went to prom together, they share memories of two young kids in love. All the proof is there and all we ask is that Miguel be given a chance to see that this world is not as unfair as it seems. He has been held in custody long enough to realize his misstep and to contemplate over better decision-making in the future. However, he did not hurt her, she ran with him through the desert for 7 miles, a feat difficult to execute had she truly been abducted. He does have a voice and that voice is everyone who loves him. We ask that anyone who is an advocate of justice and truth, stand with Miguel and his family to help bring him home.
Thank you all and God Bless.
