5th Grade Puberty Program at Vista Verde School
5th Grade Puberty Program at Vista Verde School
Why this petition matters
This petition is to address concerns that were raised as a result of the proposed change from two annually sponsored PTA programs at the Vista Verde Elementary School General Assembly meeting, held August 25, 2022. The two programs being referenced are the 5th Grade Ladies Tea and the 5th Grade Guys Stuff.
These programs were established under the criteria set in place to address sensitive topic parent/child programs and curriculum by the Health Advisory Committee that was appointed by the Irvine Unified School District board. As current PTA members and parents of elementary age students at Vista Verde, our involvement in our children’s growth and education is of top priority and any proposed change to programs that impact our children and that are funded by the PTA should be discussed and voted on by the General Assembly. The programs in discussion, "Ladies Tea" and "Guys Stuff", have been hosted annually for fifth grade students by the Vista Verde PTA for several years, however this year, there is a proposed change to the program content and format. The information provided to the General Assembly on the proposed changes were to rename the program to "My Best Self" and change the format to a combined co-ed single presentation for all fifth-grade students. Unfortunately, the details of this program were not presented, nor have they been made available for parents to review. We propose that the Vista Verde PTA Board set a special meeting to discuss the details of the new proposed program and for PTA members to have the opportunity to vote on whether they would like (a) 1 combined best self program (b) 2 separate programs Girls Tea/Guy Stuff, or (c) all 3 programs, where everyone can be included and choose which program(s) they would like to attend.
This petition is to request the formal removal of the program "My Best Self" from the PTA calendar until the proposed program changes content, format and timing be reviewed, discussed and approved by the General Assembly. "
