Petition update
UPDATED: David Bond's Aliases, Legal Issues & An Extra Demand
Feb 16, 2016 — NOTE: Steven Mapel is NOT one of David's aliases as I noted several days ago. Several petition signers have pointed out that his name is, indeed, David Campbell. I apologize for the confusion that this might have caused.
Hello Petition Supporters,
If you read the petition, you'll notice 3 new developments:
1. The actual name of David Bond isn't David Campbell. It's Steven Mapel. Thanks to a petition supporter, I received access to "David Bond"'s driver's license information, which includes his legal name. I've changed the words in the petition accordingly. (In this update, I'll use "Steven" and "David" interchangeably.)
2. I've explained that Steven's actions are illegal. By using images and videos (of the women he interacts with) for commercial purposes, he violates international rights of publicity laws, which relate to people's control over how photos and visual media of them are used.
3. This petition includes an extra demand for the shutdown of Steven's Wordpress website titled "Japan by David Bond". We have substantial reasons to demand this, which include my previous point above and the anti-Asian, misogynistic rhetoric on his website.
I've heard concerns that this petition only feeds David's hunger for attention. While that could be true, it is critical for members of the local communities in Asia and Italy to be aware of his actions and see how oppressive, ILLEGAL, and violating they are.
Some of you have e-mailed me saying that you and your friends have circulated this petition to others. Thank you for that. Know that this petition is yours: yours to share, yours to discuss with others, yours to use as a tool for learning and empowerment.
With continuing gratitude and expectancy,
Evelyn
