Lowering the Voting Age to Seventeen

We the undersigned in full confidence, firmly believe that the voting age should be lowered to seventeen. If seventeen-year-olds can get a license to drive, leave school and start working, be liable to pay taxes, choose to defend their country and even be considered ‘adults’ in criminal law alongside many other responsibilities prescribed by the New Zealand Government, why are we denied the simple right to vote? Why are we required to give our hard-earned money to the country if we don’t have a say on what that should be put towards? Why are we putting our lives on the line in the name of national security if we don’t have a say on what we are truly fighting for? We believe that with your support, we can overcome this obstacle.
