Help us continue the fight against the Yeshiva regulations: GO VOTE
Feb 25, 2019 —
New York State Yeshivos face an existential threat to their educational autonomy. Respected communal leaders with extensive knowledge of the situation have deemed this to be the most serious threat our communities have ever faced in New York. Rabbanim from all segments of frum society have written that the danger is "real, imminent, and affects all NYS Yeshivos."
After years of anti-yeshiva propaganda, officials have been empowered to scrutinize and take control of the internal workings of our schools -- all of our schools, not just those with academic deficiencies. Despite their unfamiliarity with private school operations or our educational methodology, they will now have the power to make judgments about the qualifications of teachers, including teachers of Limudei Kodesh. They will have authority to impose elaborate subject matter requirements designed to mimic in full the secular humanist education provided in the public schools. In the hands of well-meaning officials, powers and mandates such as these could make it extremely challenging for us to provide our children with a high-quality education that reflects our own values and priorities; in the hands of hostile ones, they could well make it entirely impossible.
As always, we turn to tefillah, begging Hashem to avert the decree.
And now, an opportunity for concrete action has been presented to us.
Rabbanim from across the entire spectrum of New York’s frum community unite in this message to New York City residents: Please vote in this Tuesday’s special election for NYC Public Advocate.
Our community's combined strength is immense. We have the opportunity to speak in one powerful unified voice. We must come together.
Even if you don’t usually vote, please join the community in making this statement in support of our Chinuch, our ideals, and our way of life. Despite the inconvenience, please take the time to get to your local polling station tomorrow, Tuesday,February 26, and cast a ballot. With low turnout expected in this special election, our voice will be heard -- if we come forward and make it heard.
As this is an obscure, off-season election, there are still many in our community who are unaware that an election is taking place on Tuesday, or that Rabbanim and communal leaders have called for our community’s full participation. Please join us in our goal of reaching absolutely everybody by forwarding this message to at least ten of your contacts.
