The administration needs to enact the Defense Production Act and mass produce N95 masks. Homemade masks can only help prevent the wearer from spreading the virus. THEY DO NOT PREVENT THE WEARER FROM CONTRACTING THE VIRUS. As it is right now, N95 masks are only available to health care workers. We do not have a timeline on a usable vaccine and even then, it might only help some. N95's will probably be more expensive to produce - maybe twice as much as a surgical mask ($1. vs. $2 each) but pales in comparison to the cost of a hospital stay. This is definitely a case of an ounce or prevention is worth a pound of cure. N95 masks need to be mass produced and made available to the general public.
