The Organizing Committee,
Orlen Warsaw Games,
We write with great concern to you about the recent incident of Kenyan athlete Recho Kosgei who collapsed while racing at the Warsaw Marathon on 24th September, 2017. We noted with utter shock and disgrace that the cameras were on Recho Kosgei and you all watched as she writhed, lying in deep pain, unstable, wailing, unable to move and you left her to suffer like a wild dog, an un approachable wild dog not worthy of medical assistance. The commentators watched and commented as cameras were on her and you all watched, unbothered as if waiting for a wild animal that has just been poisoned to give it’s last kick and die.
It is with deep concern that we would like to seek answers from yourselves as to why nobody came to her rescue when she was clearly immobilised and in pain. I would like to point to you that even though this is a race, a game, a human being was involved, and most of all the parents, community, nation and indeed continent is disturbed that the GAMES were more important than her life.
Whereby we recognize that there are rules and regulations regarding interference with an athlete whilst in the competition, we are saddened to note that the organizers felt that these rules and wonderful regulations are more important than an athletes’ health, and life. Surely, there comes a time when reason, logic, common sense over rules regulations and rules of a GAME.
Sirs, we would like to hear from you concerning this matter. We demand a public address to Recho Kosgei, her family, community and entire country because there is not a dry eye that has watched this public humiliation, rejection, public display of hate that has been accorded to Kosgei
The Kenyan community and supporters of Recho Kosgei
