Support Rolf Harris against this miscarriage of justice

Carol Barker
London, United Kingdom

Feb 14, 2016 — Rolf Harris has been subjected to a gross miscarriage of justice. He was convicted in 2014, as described in the petition, on the basis of no evidence.

The dubious conduct of the prosecution in Operation Yewtree (and other related operations) is well known. From the outset Yewtree has been conducted on the basis that all allegations against the famous must be immediately treated as true. Claimants have been automatically accepted as victims of crime. The observations made by Jim Davidson and Paul Gambaccini have been to the effect that the police and the CPS are not interested in evidence. The allegation is everything. It doesn’t matter whether it is true or not. This is borne out in the case of Rolf Harris.

Judges have a responsibility to protect the public against ill-founded and dangerous prosecutions. Juries should be able to believe that the evidence that is presented to them is safe. In the case of Mr Harris the police, the Crown Prosecution Service and the Judge were found wanting in the face of the evidence.

On 3 February, The Sun newspaper announced to the public that the police would see Rolf to speak to him about new charges on 12 February. Presumably they were tipped off by the police? It also said that with new complaints being put forward Rolf would not be able to focus on his appeal.

On 12 February the CPS announced that Rolf would face seven further indecent assault charges. The specific details of these new allegations are as yet uknown. At this stage, based on the track record of Operation Yewtree, the Metropolitan Police and the CPS we have to assume that these new charges are indeed ‘more of the same’ and that the new charges have been brought in order to prevent an appeal.

Thank you for signing this petition and for your comments of support. Please pass the petition on if you can because Rolf needs all the support we can give him.
