More on this petition:
I started this petition because I believe that motion pictures are an invaluable art form. Without the efforts of talented filmmakers, and the production and distribution companies who ensure that their stories get told, our culture would not be as rich as it is today. Great films are celebrated and passed down to inspire generations to come. One such film is Tom Green's 2001 comedy opus Freddy Got Fingered.Freddy was unquestionably a daring vision far ahead of its time, and much of its footage and musical score was lost on the cutting room floor. But in spite of its initial, relentlessly negative reception, the movie proved to be quite successful with home video sales, grossing more than double its production budget. It's high time that the many, many fans of Freddy-- the ones responsible for keeping it alive long after its theatrical run-- were allowed to enjoy the original cut of the film, preferably by or on April 18th, 2016 (the movie's 15th anniversary). It's no stretch of the imagination to think a blu ray or digital release of this long awaited version would sell like hot cheese sandwiches. When you look at Ridley Scott's cut of Blade Runner or Richard Donner's cut of Superman II, it's easy to appreciate the importance of preserving the filmmakers' original vision. Don't let this noble opportunity pass you by. Let's work together and make it happen. Perhaps one day we'll look at what we've accomplished and say, as Gord Brody would put it, "I saved the day."
