Children and students who live in more than one household or who need for higher educational reasons to take more than one bus route should be able to do so safely while following the recommended CDC guidelines. Parents like myself who share joint custody of their kids in multiple Virginia Beach city schools should not have to worry about their kids getting to and from school safely no matter which parents home they need to go home to. Both my ex husband and I work full time jobs and can not afford to take off work 4 times a day just to drive our kids to and from school especially when we both live in the same school district and even purchased in this specific school district to ensure our kids had reliable bus transportation. It is not feasible for working parents to have to take PTO (assuming they even have PTO available to them as a benefit) off their working jobs each day they have legal custody of their children just to maintain school attendance simply because the schools refuses to provide safe bus transportation to one parents home or the other when both parents live in the same school district. This is very disruptive to the internal family dynamics and custody arrangements meticulously and carefully thought out and agreed upon in court and absolutely negatively impacts the kids emotionally as well.  This is not only affecting my family but would certainly be affecting gifted students, students who require after and before school daycare, students who have multiple homes and legal custody arrangements and likely many more. As hard working tax payers in the city of Virginia Beach it is absolutely necessary for our kids and Vb students to be provided a resolution to get to and from school safely. With all the negative changes Covid-19 has already caused, this is certainly an unnecessary issue that negatively impacts our students and kids and their families this school year and needs to be corrected!!! Children thrive on routine, and for those of us with a legal custody arrangements and a set routine, this is an appalling new issue and detrimental to our ability to work our jobs and careers with out leaving our children stranded with bus transportation.
