Providing school children with an increased variety of higher quality, locally produced fresh fruits and vegetables has a positive impact on local communities, farmers, families, and schools.
The Unprocessed Fruits and Vegetable Pilot Program (UFFVP Program) provides school districts in 7 states (including California) the money to purchase fresh, fruits and vegetables from local farms.
The 2014 Farm Bill Authorized the creation of the UFVP Program and through the program several local communities have seen improvements in the way their food systems have developed.
The UFVP Pilot allows schools flexibility in purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. It’s a win-win-win for farmers, school districts, and the children that get to eat delicious local foods.
The 2018 Farm Bill will either renew, keep, or expand the UFVP Program.
We, the undersigned, support the renewal and expansion of the Unprocessed Fruits and Vegetable Pilot Program in the 2018 Farm Bill.
