DNR Request Opens Door to Sell Off State Park Land.

Friends of The Black River Forest

Jan 11, 2018 — Call To Action!

The recent DNR request opens door to sell off any State Park Land. The DNR is asking for RULES to be CHANGED to enable Kohler to use Kohler Andre State Park land for its own profit.

The Natural Resources Board published the agenda for its January 24 meeting yesterday. It has added a DNR request signed Jan. 8, 2018 which proposes ignoring the rules regarding State Parks Master Plans written before 1996. Kohler Andrae's master plan was written in 1989. The original DNR request to "begin" the process of deciding to amend Kohler Andre State Park's Master Plan apparently ran into some problems which have necessitated changing the rules to get the Kohler Company what it wants. It would have been illegal to amend the park master plan since the ordinance has the force of law (which FBRF pointed out in a letter to the Board from our attorney). So now they want to change the rules and allow commentary only until January 19, 2018.
The public has a right to a hearing on this rule change with more time and information to prepare responses. We thought the Governor's, the City of Sheboygan's, local politicians' and Kohler's deviousness and collusion couldn't get worse. It has. Now, an agency asks to change the rules to accommodate giveaways of our land to well-connected businesses, Wisconsin residents’ land, air and water are under assault and we have to fight back. We have delivered over 13,000 signatures, written hundreds of letters, spoken at DNR and Natural Resource Board meetings. Yet the DNR and Natural Resource Board continue to move forward without transparency.
Please email the people below and tell them this rule change is transparent and there should be no change of rules which enables a private company to use our State Park land. For an issue as serious as changing rules which will allow all of our State Park lands to sell off land, the public deserves an open hearing with more notice and information. It is our land. We can not allow the DNR to give away our State Land and destroy our natural resources.

The agenda item is #6 "Requesting approval to deviate”
