SAVE SHERON EDWARDS FROM SERVING STATE AND FEDERAL TERMS FOR THE SAME EXACT CRIME
Why this petition matters

SAVE SHERON EDWARDS FROM SERVING STATE AND FEDERAL TERMS FOR THE SAME EXACT CRIME, GRANT AN EARLY PAROLE.
Can you imagine serving 20 years for a crime you've openly expressed an apology and remorse for? Then, after completing your sentence, you are told that you will have to serve another 20 years for the same exact crime. Is that not cruel and unusual punishment? Well, the Mississippi Department of Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons doesn't think so.
In 1999 Sheron Edwards was arrested for a state robbery in Mississippi. That robbery led to federal charges, an indictment, federal trial and a conviction. He was sentenced to 20 years in the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Meanwhile, Mississippi furthered its original prosecution. It ended with the imposition of a consecutive 20-year sentence in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. After having completed the federal term from 1999 through July 11, 2017, sadly, Sheron Edwards was extradited to the MDOC (parole date 2028).
ACHIEVEMENTS AND REHABILITATION: During his incarceration he has worked as a barber, GED tutor, legal research instructor, and "Suicide Companion". Suicide Companion is a mental health work program, established by the Federal Bureau of Prison's psychology department, to prevent suicides in prison. Sheron is also a certified personal trainer through the National Federation of Professional Trainers, and he has scored gold on a Work Keys examination (a system of assessments and curriculum that build and measure essential workplace skills that can affect your job performance and increase opportunities for career changes and advancement). He has received college certifications from Merced College, Louisiana Technical College and Holmes Community College in both computer applications and welding. His most recent achievement is his self-written memoir, Life's Lenses, published on Amazon May 29, 2021. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095KLHLMS/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_glt_fabc_FWX1SZHEKSHKK693ZGX8 Despite serving two separate sentences, state and federal, based on the same crime, he continues to display a plethora of productive duties while facing these challenging times.
