25 000 people stands for Oleg Sentsov!
May 25, 2018 — I am grateful to everyone who signed the petition and supports our appeal! 25 thousand signatures for a week, it's incredible. I hope that our addressees will also pay attention to how many people are waiting for their help.
During the week the situation did not change too much. There is no news about Oleg yet. In Kiev, daily actions continue. For example, today, there will be FreeSentsov Night near the Russian embassy (https://www.facebook.com/events/272475806662421/). Sounds interesting, join, if you are in Kiev.
On June 1-2, a #FreeOlegSentsov international campaign is planned.
Yesterday activists met at the airport "Boryspil" football teams arriving at the Champions League with posters about Oleg and political prisoners in Russia.
International, human rights organizations, literature, cinematographic, journalistic communities, scientists and cultural figures took the floor in defense of Oleg. The President of Estonia was photographed with a poster "Free Sentsov".
Yesterday, French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Russia. Pussi Riot and several human rights defenders appealed to him with a request to raise the issue of Ukrainian political prisoners during his meetings with Putin. Macron said that they talked about this. But for now, all is in vain.
Today a documentary film by Askold Kurov "The Process" on Oleg Sentsov's case will be made public. At 22:00 Moscow time it will be shown on the link https://www.currenttime.tv/a/28495161.html, and then it will be publicly available on the Mediazona website.
What will happen to the petition?
Change.org itself sends out the petition and its updates to the addressees indicated in it. These are the embassies of Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Canada, USA, Australia and Great Britain in Russia and Ukraine.
That is, they received letters as soon as the petition appeared and they already know that it was signed by 25,000 people. They do not have to react, but they can do it. In order to give them a better chance, I will send this petition, links to it and additional information on my own behalf and from my mailbox. By the way, you can do this, not only via email but also via regular mail.
Also, I will post information on the petition on Twitter and tag all the embassies and diplomats that will be found. On Twitter, it's easy to get to them. You can do this too, with the hashtag #MakeThemTalk and #FreeSentsov.
In any case - do not stop talking. Talk about Oleg and other political prisoners. Write posts, tell your friends, write to politicians. If people do not understand what is happening - send the article by PEN America (https://pen.org/advocacy-case/oleg-sentsov/).
Write letters to the guys themselves in the jails - they also need support! Their lives depend on our voices and actions.
Oleg is on hunger strike for 12 days.
