CALL TO ACTION TO PROTECT THE ST. AUGUSTINE CONFEDERATE MONUMENT
Jul 5, 2018 — (Conceptualization Concept)
(looks ok but the language will make your blood boil)
History in America's oldest city is under attack. Those that hate America, our veterans and our history are licking their chops over a potential win in St. Augustine. After all, if St. Augustine caves in on its #1 asset - historical - it sets a BAD precedent.
WE MUST PUSH BACK HARD. On Monday, July 9th the Commission will discuss a new "Contextualization Committee" Report that smears the names of town veterans, many whose families are still here. They must know it is an OUTRAGE to shame our history and our veterans!
HOW YOU CAN HELP
1. ATTEND Monday afternoon's City Commission Meeting - wear a provided shirt (please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your shirt size)
2. SPEAK at Monday's meeting - read a prepared script (please email email@example.com for your script)
3. Email and Call the City - let them know you're offended and insulted by the contextualization Committee's report. Let them know the proposed language untruthful, divisive and hurtful - not 'healing'. DO THIS NOW - NEXT WEEK MAY BE TOO LATE!

Note: Please keep in mind that Politicians don't care about a history lesson, they aren't motivated by 'right' and 'wrong'. What they care about is pleasing people and not rocking the boat. They need to know accepting this report is going TOO far. Are you offended by the lies and half-truths? Tell them! Are you angry? Say so (keep it family-friendly). St. Augustine must honor its history and its veterans - all of them. The "Occupy" people have made their opinions known....we must also!
"Rev" Ron Rawls (from Gainesville) was assigned by the Southern Poverty Law Center to attack in St. Augustine. In response, the City Commission decided last year to set up a 'commission' to 'Contextualize" the Constitution Plaza Cenotaph, as a way to placate Rawls. He has protested in the city each month since, he is not impressed by the Contextualization 'concession' and continues to demand the removal of the monument. He brought in the New Black Panther Party in December to disrupt the Night of Lights and "Occupy Jacksonvile" last month demanding the City "Take it Down" or they will "Do it Like Durham" (where vigalite social justice warriors ripped down a monument while police stood by and watched).
The Committee appointed to draft the "Contextualization" language finished their work and their proposed wording is full of lies and half-truths. Past NAACP President HK Edgerton believes it will only conjure up hate and division and calls it 'insulting'.
The Report (read it here: http://citystaug.com/news_detail_T2_R378.php) is already UNTHINKABLY posted on the City's website for the world to see, giving tacit approval to its injurious words.
At the Commission meeting on Monday, July 9th, the Commission will hear the report, but the only 'rebuttal time' they are offering are small mini-chunks during comment time. What will they do? Will they spend thousands of tax dollars to disgrace the Cenotpah? Will they put report in the circular file (do nothing - best choice), or perhaps put the issue to a referendum?
Will we stand by and be the silent majority or will we act? Our polls show that XXX percent of St. Augustinians oppose change alterations to the Cenotaph.
If they can take down American History in St. Augustine, nothing is off limits!
STAND UP FOR OUR VETERANS AND OUR HISTORY. STAND UP FOR OUR WAR MEMORIAL.
WE MUST PUSH BACK HARD. Calls, Emails, Attendance at Meeting. WE MUST NOT ALLOW THE APPEASEMENT TO TARNISH OUR FAMILIES, OUR VETERANS, OUR HISTORY.
We have to bump the train from its track. We must go on the offense. They have called our families and neighbors racists and want to immortalize it in bronze and stone at our expense. will we let that stand?
Excerpts from the Report Recommendation:
1. Half - Truth - The obelisk honors local loved ones who gave up their lives in service of the Confederate states. Yet in all these Confederate state constitutions, black people were legally regarded as human property. This memorial is a reminder of the diverse legacies of the Civil War.
FACT: IT WAS THE UNDISPUTED LAW OF THE LAND - LEGAL UNDER THE US CONSTITUTION
2. Half - Truth - The Emancipation Proclamation... brought new possibilities to St. Augustine’s black residents earlier than other areas of the Confederacy: to own property, to marry legally, to learn to read and write, and for men, to vote and hold public office.
FACT: The Emancipation didn't give anyone in St. Augustine anything. Pres. Lincoln didn't have the power to do anything in Florida - he was neither Governor nor President of Florida.
3. Half - Truth - White men in St. Augustine formed militias which joined the Confederate Florida regiments and fought in Tennessee, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina. Only a handful remained to surrender in 1865. Many others were buried in graves far from home.
Black men in St. Augustine were among the first to join black fighting units in the Civil War as early as 1862. Local black men headed to Hilton Head, South Carolina, to join volunteer regiments. These forces were later designated the United States Colored Troops (USCT).
FACT: This imples that no Black men served the Confederacy. Several Confederate Veterans are buried in St. Augustine who served in the St. Augustine Blues, shoulder to shoulder with their neighbors.
(of course there are more, but as you can see, this revisionist history cannot be allowed to stand)

SAVE SOUTHERN HERITAGE Inc. is a not for profit corporation that educates & advocates on behalf of Southern Heritage & History. It was started in 2015 in response to the knee-jerk Anti-Southern institutionalized bullying and “Erase-ism” levied against the people of South Carolina by Governor Nikki Haley, after she broke all previous agreements about how South Carolina’s historical veterans and their symbols should be treated and respected.
The Florida branch was activated in mid-January 2016, in response to three initiatives in the Florida Legislature that are part of a hate campaign led by Anti-American extremists, who refuse to respect the various cultures that make up the fabric of Florida’s society. Since that time, it has grown in membership and has been active in Heritage battles throughout Florida including the “We’ll Remember in November Campaign” that resulted in #heritagehater candidates to loose elections in Florida.
